On 22 December, the Italian Authorities for Communications communicated the outcome of the public consultation by which they intended to verify the interest in AM broadcasting here in Italy.More than 100 people,institutions,no-profit organizations and companies sent their feedback and, in most cases, projects.
Italian Authorities take note that the interest is high, but acknowledge as is currently the legislation there is no possibility neither to deny nor to authorize.Any such decision shall be referred to the Parliamentary debate according to the times and arrangements that the parliament will specify someway... somehow... may be soon, may be never. Currently the only way to obtain a license or broadcasting in compliance with our law or legislative gap is agreeing to be prosecuted by the court, have the transmitter confiscated and then being acquitted by another court as not guilty. LPAM has not been considered. It means we need to pay a lawyer to defend ourself in the first step and one more to get the goal to be allowed to broadcast. That's it! This sounds CRAZY!Considered this I took the decision to promote a popular movement to promote AM broadcasting in my country. In few days I'm going to meet a lawyer to go through this.
Human beings have not done well at large-scale governmental management of world affairs, and this story from Italy is a prime example of how the gears can jam.
This is a book novel, a screen-play for the movies, but it's REAL.
Perhaps reality has been over-rated, since government discards it so often.
Excuse me, I'm not in Italy, but this story has me upset!
Thanks Carl, no need to excuse yourself.
It's a paradox:
we cannot broadcast in LPFM because FM band is regulated but Italian FM licensed stations cannot complaint against FM stations based in North Africa that disturb especially from 103 to 108 Mhz.
We cannot broadcast in LPAM because they don't know how to rule the AM usage but if we accept to be prosecuted by law we'll get our goal because there is no law ruling this.
Anyway... The good news are that Italians want broadcasting in AM (LPAM or not). I'm aware of a relevant number of transmitters bought from Ramsey or 6v6 and we have some brodcaster transmitting with hundreds of Watts. Something is happening!
It's good to hear from you.
I'm am sorry to hear about
the difficulties with LPAM in your
country.
Please let us know what happens.

My geneology tree points back to Switzerland, right across the Alps from Italy.
We drink a lot of wine on both sides, and for us it has lead to the cuckoo clock and lots of chocolate, while over there there is fabulous Italien food and the best baked bread on earth. Who has time to write laws that come out right?
Learn a lesson from ex-president Clinton from the U.S...... be prepared to swear, "I have never had radio with that transmitter."
