Some are wondering what the FCC does when the government shuts down

fire up the jolly roger for the duration of the shutdown 🙂 JK.
500w transmitter and 100ft high antenna would rule right now I sure wish I had the 150w setup right now I tired to get about 8 to 10 yrs ago
" It is expected that approximately 1,754 FCC employees are employed by the FCC" --- hmm it does not mention the FCC employess employed by other agencies..
(^^^ That is a joke...)
In this neighborhood the houses are really
close together. The signal would be in all
of the phones in other people's houses, and
who knows what else.
For you ham dudes (and I am one) I have
run AM on 75 and 40 meters with a Heathkit
DX-60A, and a newer DX-60B transmitter.
I still have both rigs. I love the way they look,
and I just think they are cool in general. Oddly
enough, the DX-60B is broken, but the older DX-60A
works fine. Both of these wonderful ham transmitters
are tired from old age. And so are the 6146 final tubes.
In case you don't know, the DX-60, DX-60A, and DX-60B
all used just one 6146 for the final. Yup. These poor final tubes are really
tired. Running AM on them, the output
power is down in the 10 to 20 watt range. Also, because
of the simple modulation scheme (contolled carrier?,) those radios only run about
60 percent modulation. (Isn't that about right?)
Still, wonderful fun! It's a shame that the matching ham
band receiver isn't better. I love my Heathkit HR-10B receiver,
but only for very casual operation and nostalgic reasons. It
is not a very good ham radio communications receiver. What
a shame. Heathkit should have done a better design job on
the HR-10 series.

Part 15 radio stations may be shut up by too little power, but we are not shut down.
Some of our radio friends have interesting comments, starting with John Anderson at DIY Media, who believes the FCC could have shut down in a better way.
And Paul Thurst, a professional radio engineer who blogs, has a thoughtful post agreeing with many of us that a large problem with AM radio is its poor programming.
