Been a ham since 1977 general, advanced, then extra in 1979. Have worked VHF, X microwave, HF, RTTY, CW, AM, and SSB. It's a great hobby.
As I type this, we have severe weather in my area and I am monitoring a 2 meter SkyWarn weather net. Tornado warning just east of here. The hams are helping keep the weather bureau up to date on conditions.
Neil
I been a ham operator since 1992, extra class 14 years.
First WN2FAF, then WB2FAF, now WA4EDV. Novice in 1962, Technician and General in 1963, Advanced in 1969, Extra in 1977. Member of ARRL's Old Timers' Club since 1982.
Lee,
Regarding my callsign, it is just a matter of my personal preference that I not disclose it on the internet. If one wants, from the callsign, one can obtain a lot of personal information about the licensee and since I do no know how or by whom it could be used, I choose not to be "listed".
You are proud of your callsign, as am I of mine, but I am content to leave my identity as it is on the internet boards.
Neil
I too rather remain "not listed".
I received my novice license in 1978 and moved onto technician a year later as WB7VQQ. I started over in 1997 as KC7IEE as a Technician class, then General, Advanced and finally Extra in 2000. The FCC assigned my current call sign upon passing the Advanced test; KK7CW. Nope, its not a vanity call sign.

Marshall,
I have a good friend whose call ends in CW as does yours. Sometimes the luck of the draw gives one a distictive call.

Neil,
Over the past 40 years broadcasting, as well as amateur radio, has made some huge changes. There are more to come in just the next couple of years as well. I just return from the NAB convention here in Vegas. I also attended the ham radio reception hosted by Bob Heil and BSW. Not only was this a great get together for the "big boys", it was also an opportunity to talk to some Part 15 community radio people.
Such things as DRM, advanced digital modes and new Part 15 rules changes were among the subjects of interest to me. In fact, just today, I receive a notice of proposed rule making for low output radio frequency devices. This will definitely change some of the definitions and perceptions we have now re: Part 15. I encourage everyone to search out the subject on the FCC web site.
At any rate, it's good to know we all have a common thread with amateur radio.
