I'm getting a little confused by all the grounding discussion. I read about sticking 6 ft rods in the ground and burying many 6ft wires around the antenna in the ground. Coupled with a 3 meter antenna, this sounds like it going way over the part 15 limit. Am I missing something?

Hi,

The ground situation appears to be one of the most often discussed things regarding the part 15 3 meter rule.

I don't believe anyone would argue with my statement that the radials and rods below ground do not count in the 3 meter limit. My opinion is that the ground lead begins where the wire or mast pokes out of the ground. If I am correct, then an antenna with a buried ground such as the SSTRAN antenna is legal. I am not saying that other ground systems are not legal, just that I believe this one is.

The legality of other transmitter ground schemes (wires from elevated transmitters, metal roofs, billboards, towers, indoor pipes, house wiring grounds, etc.) is subject to interpretation and opinion regarding how the rules apply. I refer you to the many other posts on grounding here and will leave these discussions to others.

Neil
