I would like to wish the entire Part15.us community a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

This might be the right time and place to end my confusion.
Everybody wishes everybody else a merry christmas and a happy new year.
I never know what to do.
Sometimes I think I am not merry at all, but am happy.
At other times I get merry and happy at the same time.
What IS the proper way to manage these two different emotions, and how serious is it to do them at the wrong holiday.
It's new year day and I'm merry as hell.
