I said: The problem with RF output power with many operators is that it is never enough. It is like a drug addiction. Once you get used to what you have you need more to get a buzz. Drug addicts risk arrest and/or jail time. Radio hobby types risk arrest and/or jail time.
Depending where you are, some jails have pretty good breakfast, and you might meet future radio partners in there that could be transmitter locations as the pirate life-style matures.
The documentation I had with my FM100B stated that it had 10mw output. Now, I always take any claims of output with a grain of salt.
In reality, using the telescopic antenna, it didn't have significantly more range than my Canadian certified Decade MS-100 (maybe a few hundred feet). The signal did have more of a punch, in the sense that there were fewer dropouts in places where my Decade's signal just disappeared, and it was obvious that the field strength did exceed Canadian regulations. So I never did use it for broadcasting. The telescopic antenna is quite small, and it must introduce quite a mismatch, if the spec'ed power levels are totally accurate (which I do doubt, at least in my unit). It could also be why there might be problems with heat, as some have mentioned.
Mr. Artisan: I did listen to a 100B once operation in the manner you discussed. I thought it sounded very good.
