Hey guys and gals. Its been a long time since Ive been on here, but this is VC here from EveningStorm Radio. Having to shut my station down for an undetermined amount of time and have put up my Rangemaster on Ebay for sale.

Rather than go into the big spill on here, I've got everything you need to know on the auction site. In case anyone is interested. In financial need right now, plus Im moving locations and my station is off the air for a while.

Thanks and keep it on the air!

Ive put the link into a tiny URL so it wont be so long.

peace,

Looks good! But I thought the Rangemaster was Part 15 CERTIFIED, not just "type accepted". And if it is, why doesn't it state that on the FCC compliance sticker?

I think it's just a wrong choice of wording. No big deal really..but should be corrected in the description.

I would also change "this is what you want under Part 15". That suggests to someone who would not know that it is the only thing they could use..when in fact it is not. The Part 15 rules do not state you MUST use a Part 15 certified unit, but the description as it is worded is saying just that.

Another thing I would correct is the mounting height. Gotta be careful with that one. I don't need to go over the ordeal about the height and ground lead thing but we all know how that one turned out.

Wording is important these days in business. What may not intend to be misleading can very well turn out to be.

quite surprised it is still there and that no one has bought it.

Well, it's a good buy, maybe someone will jump in at the last moment.. often waiting to bid is the best option for the buyer, as it prevents 'bidding wars' and helps to keep the price low.
Of course it's also likely that nobody has a spare $460 laying around at present.

In the past several months about 3 or 4 Rangemasters sold on ebay, and I think only one managed to sell reaching the $500 mark, and some others for $400, and another even less than that.. and a Procaster just sold for $310 about a week ago.

It's all a matter of timing - Who's got the cash when the bargains are available.
Myself, currently, I don't have $500 available.

Five Hundred is almost the full asking price for a new one.

If I had five-hundred I would keep it and not talk about it.

Since I don't have five-hundred I can talk about it all I want.

"..Five Hundred is almost the full asking price for a new one.. "

New, the outdoor unit starts at $850, and that's without any accessories. You can get them a little cheaper if buying multiple units, .. I notice it has been re-listed now. $455 with free shipping is actually a sweet deal.

$455 is not bad. But like the new price w/o accessories, even $455 for a used item in unknown operational condition (not doubting seller's claim it works) until you get it and fire it up..it is somewhat of a risk..IMO.

And what about warranty. Who takes care of that? I doubt Hamilton will honor a warranty on a second hand product used for the last few years. And I doubt the seller has the ability or spares on hand to honor any sort of warranty.

Warranty is always for the original purchaser. In fact some warranty stipulations state that warranty applies to the original purchaser. Unless Hamilton states they honor warranty to a second buyer and a few years after the original purchase..claiming a warranty will obviously be a problem.

Well yeah, we are talking about buying a used item on ebay, no warranties, but the protection you do have is receiving as described.. whatever - Personally, I would feel secure about bidding this auction. His feedback is over 500 strong, his description is detailed clearly, there's ample pictures to examine.
If I could, I would.

True..from the photos it appears to be well taken care of and the seals on the lid look good and no visible evidence of any weather getting inside. Other than the normal wear on the outside of the box, which is expected, the starting bid price is quite reasonable.

Same here, if I could I would have snagged that thing on the last listing even though I would not need it, just to have for emergency setup as a 3rd backup to the 2nd backup which backs up the primary backup to the main CC system!

I love redundancy!

i believe the reasoning for these not selling for much used is by now everyone is aware of the fcc ground lead enforcement issues. since the fcc has been enforcing the reinterpreted ground lead there have been a lot of these popping up on ebay and selling in the 300.00 range. that is why i wont sell my rangemaster. plus as i stated on another thread when stated you are in financial need seems to deter people from buying from you. for some reason if you are on disability or otherwise need money people avoid buying from you like the plague even if they have the money or want it. my guess is they think the likely hood of getting ripped off is higher with those who need money. i have no real cause to think that is why it's just one of my many theories. the procaster and i.AM only being $600.00 new and being pll as well as being certified are hurting used sales of these and probably hamiltons new sales.

my suspicion is hamilton will have to eventually bring his prices down to that of the i.AM and procaster to make sales.

The opening bid on this auction was almost $500. Was that smart? I would have bid $50 and then battled it out by raising the bid until it reached the top.

"my suspicion is hamilton will have to eventually bring his prices down to that of the i.AM and procaster to make sales."

Considering the other two options come with accessories to complete a full outdoor system, and one let's you have the TX indoors, I would have to highly agree with that.

The Op's listing for the used Rangemaster is still a fair deal I think, for what it is, though lacking in essential items to make it a functioning unit, even if those items are a mere CB whip and audio/power interface cabling.

But the real drawback..even for a new Rangemaster versus the other two is the much greater cost in adding PLL to the Rangemaster. I am not 100 percent certain but that new 800+ price jumps well over 900+, and that is still leaving out the interconnecting cabling and required whip.

The listed unit appears to be in excellent shape for it's age and being used. Plus the seller is adding two extra crystals, though same frequency, the tuning wand and a software program. Bunched up all together I think the starting bid is ok..even the buy it now price isn't so bad when you toss in those extras.

I too have a Rangemaster..sitting in the X closet. It has the PLL module. It was once the primary outdoor TX prior to the return to CC operations. It performed very well sitting on a 4 foot pole over a 10 wire ground radial system. I was impressed by its performance.

It's biggest drawback is having to tote a DVM and connect it up in a manner so as to have one hand free to tune, while your DVM probe leads dangle about causing inductive reactions
and throwing off the tuning. The lack of an on-board tuning meter is surprising considering the price and excellent engineering that went into the design. The other two options have on-board metering for tuning and the power levels are pre-set so that there never is any worry about exceeding the maximum allowed. Cranking up the juice to compensate for an already inefficient antenna system limited to 3 meters length is not exactly abiding by the letter of the law, nor is it the proper way to recover any inefficiency from the inherent inefficient antenna system.

Well Op, hope it sells this time around for you! 🙂

a complete rangemaster with pll, tuning indicator, mounting bracket, and 100ft of cabling is $1000 iirc. too much now a days considering you have the amt5000 which is essentially a rangemaster on steroids though uncertified, and you have the i.AM and Procaster previously mentioned so hamilton is no longer the only game in town as was the case when the rangemaster first came out. these new transmitters offer better features and similar range at half the cost.
