I know I havent posted hear in some time but I will be trying out some new test since some of you were interted in that tin foil experiment I did with the TV atenna.

I got the Whole House 3.0 and I am happy with it. Only downside is you will need a compressor to get some good quality audio. They did advertise for a while it had a AGC but reading some revies and the manual I dont see anything about a AGC.

Anyways back to my point I will be trying that tinfoil test again with thease transmitters and see the range I will get. I did test it with the Talking House but there was no effect and I get around .5 - 1 mile's with it so I am happy with the range I get.

I will post on this topic my results but just a question to keep it part 15 does the tinfoil and TV atenna increase the feild of strength or is it just boosting the signal?

Thanks 🙂

I do not know the answer because I have never used either a TV antenna or tinfoil in my part 15 FM experiments.

But I will say this... if we find a way to boost the signal without increasing the field strength we've got to share the secret right away.

The Whole house 3.0 already goes a mile with the wire and the lightning bolt on.  What more do you want?  Honestly if you put it near a window you should truly cover on a portable Radio at least 1,000 feet and I'm talking about something like a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime with its built in FM Radio.

Now the reason for my signature website below is to allow this type of range to be legal.  We're fighting for this.

You can discuss Range and anything dealing with FM on the New Radio Revolution conference line that is open 24/7 as we are trying to find the best time for an official meeting.  I'd say try around 8:00 EST M-F but too you can call at any time and maybe we'll have folks in the conference.  Here is the number and code:

Dial-in Number: (712) 775-7035
Access Code: 756961

Boosting the signal IS increasing the field strength....that's the only way a signal can get further. By different positioning of the antenna you can direct more signal in one direction but the emitted signal is the same.

When Tim did his tests and got a higher field strength with the antenna horizontal as opposed to vertical it was because the meter had a horizontal recieving antenna but if he had taken a measurement from the end of the antenna the reading would have been much less....vertical will reach equally in all directions and if you do something to get further with tin foil or whatever(lengthening) you ARE increasing field strength. If you get better range with the tin foil you are just making the antenna more efficient. That could be considered a "mod" that, unfortunately, would void certification. The audio cables will add some extra antenna and boost the range a bit but with the certification it is assumed that audio cables are part of the operation.

@Thelegacy

I am sure running it with that configuration is above part 15 in the U.S. I also did try that and my range only doubles. I am guessing with a mile it is line of sight?

@Mark

Then I guess the tinfoil atenna wont make it legal 🙁 all well thanks for your info 🙂

In testing done by Tim in Bovey a while ago, the Whole House transmitter was well above the legal field strength, even without any modifications (over 2,000 uv/m at 3 meters.

Taken as a screenshot from the Whole House website, that antenna can be removed which give's me the impression that some kind of mod can be made to add an external antenna mounted outdoors to this transmitter.

That antenna connection is a reverse thredded conductor only SMA size not designed for a coax and remote located antenna which would make it illegal anyway, at least in Canada.

Well it was able to push it out I would say another 500 feet but I wont recomend it. When I pulled it up on the SDR it had allot of interference trying to get other stations. The SDR is 10 feet away from the transmitter so that could be one of the causes however on my clock radio it was able to pick up other stations just fine.

Hope this info may be helpful 🙂
