TV Technology Newsbytes arrives daily in the e-mail box, always including a quote of the day. Today's quote is a good one and gave me the idea for this thread:
"No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
Those of us who host radio programs can often make use of good quotes, so I thought we should have a central repository of collected quotes here at part15(dot)us, free to use on your program.
Bring your quotes here and deposit them and I'll be back the next time I spot a good one.
"The Internet stuff is spooky. I am of course not on line. I do remember ham radio operators though, usually in attics or basements, pallid, unsociable, and obsessed, inhabiting a spirit world, and harmless." Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
Well.. A quote I've come across lately since joining sailboat forums and such is one by JFK, which is kind of fascinating..
"...it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea - whether it is to sail or to watch it - we are going back from whence we came." ― John F. Kennedy
(An excerpt from his remarks at the Dinner for the America's Cup Crews, September 14 1962)

The quote thread will remain open all night in case you come up with some good ones.
The quotes added today are all excellent.
I said something to myself today that might make a quote, I'll take a chance by saying it now:
If I knew what I was doing I might not be doing it.
"I don't have to know what I'm doing. It just has to work when I'm done."
My caption text over at HB has always been:
"I don't pretend to know what I'm doing, but I'm doing to do it."
Which I'm actually kinda not..
Rich Power's quote can be used to express a life philosophy (perhaps that's the whole point):
Mr. Powers quotes himself: "I don't pretend to know what I'm doing, but I'm doing to do it."
The over-arching life version: "I don't know what life's about, but I'm doing to do it anyway."
Before doing so I need to comment on the JFK quote above.
"...it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean,"
This is not true. Our blood saline concentration is known as normal saline or isotonic saline. Sea water salt concentration is much higher than this and is known as hypertonic saline. That's why you can't drink sea water to survive. Should we believe politicians when they speak beyond their knowledge?
Anyway, here's a quote:
"With the data you don't have you can establish what you don't know" P. Perlstein, M.D.
Neil
That's interesting about Kennedy and his salt claim... even if it were true, being a Catholic as he was, I doubt that a remark in support of evolution would have gone over with the Pope, the Cardinals, the Bishops, the priests and the nuns... nor with any creationists.
Oh no! I'm here without a quote! I've got to make something up fast!
I thought I was a good thinker but it turns out that was a bad thought.
Spoilsport!!.. I deem radio8z the R Fry of quote authenticity.
I'm dissapointed to admit this apparent fact (I just googled it, and Kennedy was wrong: http://news.discovery.com/earth/oceans/was-kennedy-superbowl-ad-worth-its-salt-150202.htm )
Sometimes I worry about being a success in a mediocre world. —Lily Tomlin
"good things come to those who wait"
Maybe if you wait long enough you'll get more power for part 15!
Mark
And the wait goes on.
"And the beat goes on..."
My favorite quotes, on a pinboard over my desk:
"Why Rehearse? It's Just Crap, Twice" -- Craig Ferguson
"You Gotta Be Original. If You're Like Someone Else, Why Do They Need You?" -- Bernadette Peters
"Everything Your Audience Does When They're Not Listening To You is Your Competition" --(Attributed variously to Dan O'Day and/or Jay Trachtman)
"Never Come Out of a *ing Uptempo Record and Talk About a *ing Dog Dying" -- Casey Kasem
