So my daughter dropped her
smart phone into the ocean.
After that a series of events occurred,
and I ended up with an LG 306G. This is
not a smart phone, but it does a lot of
things. As a guy who grew up with vacuum
tubes, I am utterly amazed. Don't get me
wrong, this doesn't replace my love for
radio communications, but it is really something.
I never thought I could see the screen on one,
let alone use it. Bur I can and I do.
Anyhow, I can see the Part 15.US website just
about anywhere. I can carry it around in my
pocket. It's not easy, but I can get an idea of
what's going on here - when I'm away from a
computer, which is most of the time. I can
look at the weather radar, just that alone makes
the phone worth the it. And there are so many
other great things.
I didn't expect the phone to be able to stream any
kind of audio but I tried anyway. I tried with
all the known Part 15 stations that stream, and
with some good fairly local all news AM stations.
It didn't work on any of them, and I am not surprised
and not disappointed. After all, this is not a smart
phone, and it's operating system can only do what it
can do. I am quite pleased with the phone.
BUT there is one thing I was able to listen to, oddly
enough. Over on the ALPB site, I was able to listen
to "The Last Minute Radio Theatre." It is exactly
my sense of humor, and I started laughing here,
all alone by myself. But - WHY can I listen to TLMRT
at all? What is different there?
I have another question, but I geuss I'll hold back on
that for the moment.
Very Best Wishes,

The Last Minute Radio Theatre on thealpb.com is an mp3 file ready to play.
Probably the Part 15 stations you tried to hear are streaming stations.
It may be true that you can listen to podcasts and audiofiles that are posted as mp3 files.
Possibly everything at Demand Radio and the Blare OnAir shows can be heard.

Hello! Yup, I can get your Blare On Air
Lite shows. They will load up without
a WIFI network. Just the regular cell
service does the job. It's good company
as my family is away. And as mentioned,
I don't watch TV much. I haven't figured
out anything else. It's slow going, but
an interesting world I never thought I
could get to.
The one computer here at home has problems.
It's XP, and I am trying to put a Linux operating
system on it. So it's not a machine I want to
use much. Mainly I get on from work during
breaks.
Thanks again Carl. I'll catch you down the road.

On the other hand, even my Radio Shack TRC-1B
CB walkie talkie from the year 1968...
(With it's 50 inch whip antenna, and just 100 mW
on channel 11.)
Still brings me pure joy whenever I see it.
And I don't even do CB anymore.

This question may not really have
an answer because we don't really
know about the phone's operating
system. As I said, it's not a smart phone.
So, oddly enough, still - the only
audio files I can pull off line (after trying
on zillions of them) are just the following:
"Blare on Air Lite," from Carl's KDX website,
and "The Last Minute Radio Theatre," from
the ALPB website. This is also a KDX radio
show. (Exactly my sense of humor, as mentioned
before. I tried to play it for my wife, and she went
away. She doesn't get it.)
So...... Any comments? I know I can pull MP3 files
from a computer. No problem there. (Although I haven't tried yet.)
But, with the internet function running, all I can
get are the 2 shows metioned above.
Weird, Huh?
Bruce, Mon., Stn., CT
I just got "The Low Power Hour #92" off
the ALPB content page. (From Carl's KDX.)
I see that this has to be done when the phone
is connected to a fast WIFI network. Very Good.
Next I'm going to try content from another Part 15
station on the content page. OK. I just downloaded
A "Lefty After Dark," episode, and it's playing.
OK. This is fine. I don't need to stream from anything
if this works. So these must be straight MP3 files, which
I guess this is all the phone can do, and that's fine. Is that
right? And if it is - I hope you guys keep putting stuff
on the ALPB content page. And thank you,
buy the way! I'll probably have some more
questions. (Can't wait to hook this up to the
stereo system at home.)

Thank you, Bob!

Bruce, that's you! Mister Part 15.
Let me get nosey and butt in right away.
o.k., so your wife doesn't get the humor that you like.
So, to salvage the marriage and keep it from collapsing, you ask her to take you on a tour of things she likes.
Maybe she likes youtube videos about friendly pets, or recipe ideas, or perhaps color schemes for room painting.
Thus you will know her better and learn how to hide your secret likes.
