I'm wondering if any discussion about whitespace has happened over at Hobbybroadcaster?  I know there is at least one member here that is also a member there - is anything happening over there?

I agree with Mark

But what is important is no matter what requests are made for rule changes, be sure to keep in mind I am a supporter, win or lose on any petitions that make it to the FCC audio division.

So keep me in mind for my support as I am a Pro supporter. No mater how stupid it might sound to others, part 15 AM does need an FCC rule change to keep up with modern times.

Bruce.

hey very good work Barry. How about this idea why don't we merge you and I? We don't have to fight or be separate of course since you're getting your experimental license you would have the correct data. So instead of me being the leader of the group how about we change things up a little bit and let you hold the torch for awhile? Or better yet you could form your own group and we could put our petitions in there and you could change them up to meet your experimental results. I'm all for doing something that's going to help and so far the new radio Revolution has had a lot of hardships. But this is a new idea and maybe just maybe this might work in a better way. I'm not opposed to it I think it's a great idea it's right on track with what me and Station 8 have talked about he wanted to get some data in the FCC had talked about giving him an experimental license but because of personal issues he has not been able to do a whole lot. So what do you think? Like I said I'm going to chill out for a little bit and let someone who does have the proper data present it.  Look we all can benefit from this.

I think TheLegacy has made a sensible jesture, that is what has been needed for a long time, the meeting of the minds who have the ability to follow through with success.

TheLegacy wise decision made in my opinion.

Barry, seriously, take him up on his offer please!

Bruce.

I could even send him an Email with the Open Office docs.  I have the ones that are not watermarked as well.  I think Barry has the drive for this and could put this on a faster track.  Plus his reputation is good.

Barry I really need you to call me.  We did have about 90% of the footwork done and we as well have had contact with agents.  We have some data as well so this could get somewhere.

Yes, i said Mulled lol

I did give this extra thought and spoke with Stephanie about this as it is important to me to include my best friend and well, we have a family to raise.

Our last three are in school, when i consider taking on a long term job or project, i make it a point to look at it from all angles. How could this affect other more important things like raising our kids, our finances, can i see it all the way through to the end?

Stephanie is onboard with this and has expressed here thoughts on the subject at hand.

So with all that out of the way, I would be more than happy to carry the torch and hope that i don't let all of us down in the process. Yes, i will take on the project and that means applying for an experiemental license to legally perform tests.

All data will be shared with members of Part1t5.us and the ALPB using an email list of all members who express interest in reviewing the data collected during the tests.

And of course, your input will always be welcomed.
Troy, I will get with you on the phone as soon as AT&T fixes things on this end, the one tower that we have LOS of has had a lot of activity on it lately and service is hit or miss for the past few days.  At&T have been up there several times this week.

If you saw how much stuff was strapped to the side of that tower, you'd understand what I mean. There is a little bit of everything up there.

Hopefully we can collaborate as soon as "normal" service is restored on my end.
Also looking forward to the Teamspeak meeting tonight at 9 pm.

It truly is an honor to take on this project.

Barry of BBR WorldWide.

P.S. I may have lost use of 89.7 FM, 89.5 and 89.9  are a no go as well, 88.1 looks pretty good though and so far there isn't any skip or translators there.

There might have been some chatter about it on HB when it first passed, I don't remember.

Good on you Barry! Let us know what you find.

You wouldn't believe the noise floor on at a cell site, I recall a time when working for motorola we had a school repeater that shared space with a cell site on a high rise that constantly had problems hitting the repeater despite it being at the highest point in town.

Did you ever hear back from the FCC about the use of whitespace devices for Part 15 broadcasting?

It appears that broadcasting using those frequencies is not on the table in Canada.  Industry Canada, in their request for comments and proposals, specify explicitly that it would be for non broadcasting use.

Our member who already has relations with the FCC in particular the office of engineering and Technology will have to get back with them when he has more time to do so. Right now there is some pressing issues in his life that he needs to deal with. We hope that we can get back on track real soon with what we have been doing because we've been having good success so far.

honestly the new data that I have read on part 15. Us regarding the FCC proposing a new class for commercial broadcasting called C4 which will allow 600 watt radio stations to bump their power to 12000 Watts has really got me perplexed. I actually posted a comment on the initiative site regarding our feelings about this matter and how it could affect the FM broadcast Spectrum band. At this point I see issues with all the translators being put on the FM band now you have all of these C4 class stations coming about I don't know just what will become of the whole matter other than a big mess for FM radio. I'm trying to figure out what the future honestly is. I'm hoping that the FCC will continue towards a possible expansion in the FM band from 76 megahertz to 108 megahertz.

If they were to do that they could have all the new AM stations that want to go to FM broadcasting from 76 to 86.9 megahertz. 87.1 to 87.9 could be made into a hobby broadcast band. This lwill allow for only the hobbyist to be using those frequencies whereas no commercial broadcaster could broadcast from 87.1 to 87.9 megahertz. Then we could ask for more power for a separate service for hobby broadcasting. Keep in mind however that even if the FM band was expanded tomorrow it would take several months to establish mandatory radios to be able to receive the expanded FM band. It's the right thing to do however because of the fact that most of the rest of the world allows broadcasting on those frequencies.

Barry sent a letter to the FCC - I was wondering if he had heard back.

Why? WHY would the FCC give a big chunk of perfectly good spectrum to hobbyists so we can broadcast our homebrew programming to two or three people? Google "Spectrum Reallocation". In a time where the FCC is willing to pay mega-millions for TV stations to turn in their licenses and sign off so that the Commission can then sell that spectrum for wireless broadband... how on God's green earth can you ever expect that the FCC would listen to a request like giving up sub-FM spectrum to radio hobbyists?

If Part 15ers want the FCC to seriously consider their proposals, then those hobbyists need to know what the FCC's focus and goals are. They ain't on Part 15.

And I pray to all things sacred: because your requests are being ignored, don't blame the NAB.

I guess you could ask why they are letting unlicensed devices go into the whitespace bands for the same reason ... but they are.  With suitable interference protection, of course.

I could see hobbyists getting the same treatment on the existing FM band - with suitable changes to the hardware to give existing broadcasters the same sort of protection.

In fact, that may be the way the FCC is thinking long term - I know I would if the unlicensed white space devices work out the way they expect they're going to.  It would even work for Part 15 AM, although I suspect that there will be a sizeable number of people that would resist that change, as it would make all existing Part 15 transmitters obsolete.  Plus effectively kill the kit market.

It would solve an awful lot of problems, however.
