I have been trying to get on here
to put the goofy stuff that is going on
around here - some of it radio, and some
of it just plain "goofy stuff."
In the Goofy Stuff category, I was working on
a handheld HDTV and actually got it to pick up
some TV stations (more on that later.)
We have a channel 20 here (it's actually RF ch.20,
and it calls itself channel 20 also.)
So on 20.3 I stumbled upon a science fiction TV
network called Comet.
So I'm thinking that a lot of our readers here are
tech people, and also people who like sci-fi. It sort
of goes together.
The Comet TV network can be streamed live on your
computer or smartphone.
What do you get?
Well I just watched an old Japanese sci-fi movie from the
1960s. I actually just saw the end. The earth got saved
from some kind of monster-satellite. (Sound familiar?)
I see that they will be playing "Journey to the 7th Planet,"
at some point. I saw it in 1962 with my dad when I was
7 years old. It's really just a bunch of stop-motion monsters
and cardboard styraform mountains on the planet Uranus. Very
funny by today's standards - made in Japan too, I think.
What else do you get? Well there are horror movies like
"Pumpkin Head." Definately not for me. And there are
fantasy movies - not really my thing either.
BUT they are running Stargate SG-1 a lot. An excellent show.
According to some of my "sci-fi friends." I have always wanted
to see that one.
They are also running "The Outer Limits." It appears to be the
later incarnation that came out in the years 1995 to 2002 or 2003.
I don't know it they will run the older 1963 to 1965 black and white
Outer Limits. But if you are a sci-fi guy like me, you have seen them
all, probably several times, anyway. The quality of the older shows
was very uneven, but there were some classics, such as the episodes,
"Demon With A Glass Hand," and "The Architects Of Fear." Whether
those will appear is anybody's guess.
Check it out if you want to.
I don't know how the future will go with this little network.
Well see.
Brooce, Part 15 in Hartford CT with lots of different
experiments going on
Interesting MICRO1700 I'm always looking for something to watch while eating oatmeal.
Oatmeal takes about 5-minutes, so I only see small chunks of TV shows.
OUTER LIMITS had some episodes I liked in years past but I don't know their titles.
Science fiction radio has a history too, and I'll guess you know about that.
My favorite science fiction radio is "Lawrence Fecktenberger: Interstellar Officer Candidate".
Operating a Part 15 station might seem science fictiony to some.
This is a science fiction moment.
When I hit SAVE to post my previous message I got a giant Japanese ERROR page.
So I repeated the SAVE, and the ERROR came again.
Then I found that the same post appeared twice, so now I'm typing over the second one so it won't be a duplicate of the first one.
I'm just about to hit SEND. Wish me luck.
I just watched half of a movie about monkies that carry out the anti-social wishes of their masters.
Are there other online TV networks of this kind?
But Journey To The 7th Planet
is a real hoot.
I think the flick was made in Europe
somewhere. (Not the UK ?)
Some of the words are pronounced
strangely.
Why did they pick the 7th planet
anyway?
Thanks for checking it out Carl.
The worst possible sci fi movies...
and I'm there.
Brooce
Blame it on Brooce.
In the same week that 1 hour was taken away because of Daylight Time, here comes the Comet Channel which has now taken many more hours watching psychic monkies and supernatural induced pregnancy.
Now I'm becoming an overnight science fiction script writer.
My story is about a guy that wants to operate a cruise ship but can't afford a real cruise ship, so he makes one out of cardboard and silly-putty and tries to deal with living inland far from the nearest body of water.
I got the idea from folks I know who want to serve their town with a radio station but can't afford more than a c.crane FM1 with antenna dangling from a light fixture over the family dinner table.
The make-shift cruise ship follows the current helplessly because there's no engine nor anchor and gets lost for about 20-minutes when it begins taking on water. Luckily they have the c.crane transmitter on board and use it to send distress calls.
A nearby tuna vessel saves them and compliments their taste in music.
Everyone is treated to a fish lunch.
I like Comet TV, but also like Antenna TV. Where I am, over-air 28.1 is local (Fox I think), 28.2 is Comet, and 28.3 is the "Antenna TV' network.. Whereas Comet is old sci-fi programming, Antenna TV is old sitcoms programming.. Mork & Mindy, Mr Ed, Three's Company, Barney Miller,... the list goes on and on.
But the show I most appreciate on Antenna TV, is Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show.. they have every episode from 1972 to 1992, and they show them uncut, in their entirety - except for an edit in the opening credits so it does not say "The Tonight Show" - instead they simple say "Johnny Carson".
While we watch Comet TV down here on earth it turns out that real comets in space are being sent this way!
As we thank the stars that we will not collide, we can wonder if there will be reception affects on the radio bands.
