Howdy,

Howdy,

I may have an opportunity to purchase at auction a used 50' antenna tower and hat with a 25 watt TX that operates at low mid ranges. It's an airport NDB station that operates at 284 kHz AM. I don't know if it can be modified for BCB yet. I'll have to tear it down, disassemble and transport it to a new location (perhaps on the same airport property). This will (just barely) qualify as a local class C station, but I want to know what apps and fees apply to get it up and running. Now it has a range of about 30 mi.

Can someone point me to the right sources for learning about what it will take?

Thanks ...

This sounds pretty cool. Sadly I know nothing about this. Id keep it in the Longwave area. Plop some music on the Longwave band for once 😀 I've always wondered why Longwave stations dont skip though.

Well, I made a mistake. I can use it for BCB if it can physically be modified and get out with daytime FS at 141mv at 1 KM as Domestic Class B , not Class C. That's quite bit, because it's intended for 250 watts minimum daytime, not 25 watts (I was moving the decimal too far left).

So it may not work. I'm investigating further.

Anyway, low midband is no good. The station needs to be in the BCB range because it would be commercial ... broadcasting local news, weather, events, and entertainment, and supported by advertising and sponsorship.
