Card working out of the computer enverioument?
Has anyone got a SB card to work with just power applied? OK, here's what I want to do.... The bast way to explaine is to start this way..... Lets remove a PCI slot from the motherboard..... Lets remove the ATX power supply from the computer.... Now, let's connect the power supply to the proper pins of the PCI slot,... follow so far? Put the SB card in that slot....
Now, without software, or anything except the power to power the chips and electronics of the card, what has to be done to have the card work from either the line in, Microphone jack, or both from the speaker output jack?
So, now, let's take this experiment a little further..... Let's say we got the card to work..... (remember out of the computer on a power supply)..... What would the modifications to the electronics be to "find" a "pre-amplified" output.... That would most likey be a 600 ohm audio out, line level? Probally a balanced 600 Ohm output..... Anyone know? Has anyone tryed?....
I have searched high and low looking for engineering docs on the SB 16, and 16 series, and the other cards. Can not find anything on the PCI pin configurations.. Not the "jumpers" but the actual PCI slot pin configurations of the cards....
The idea is to use the SB cards in a vintage Broadcast Sound Console as pre-amplification, amplifiers for the various sound mixing signals . This equipment is a beautiful piece of history, and everything is still in tact except the amplification electronics.... because it's not available anymore and the electronics went in another board before my time.... The idea is to give this equipment a modern "breath" but keep the vintage look..... What a project huh?
All I need to do this is to know the above information..... Thanks

what you want to do is not possible. w/o getting into deep explanation of why, you are better off getting these here...

talk to local engineers, they may have some they'll let you have cheap.
Hi Rev!
I remember some time ago, when I was playing with a Pent 1 computer, I remember the sound card working while the computer was just on, with out windows loaded. I remember I had the TV line out connected to the line in of the card, and I caould hear the TV while windows was loading, in fact, I remember listening to TV as I just turned it on.
I don't remember what make the card was..... I have some old computers here, and a lot of ISA and PCI cards..... I'll have to experiment as time allows... I bet it can be done, it's just a matter of finding the firm ware chip and by-passing opening the either low or high side to open the chips gate.
That should allow full duplex and also full volume... naturally, i'll need to pad the in.... I may even call Creative engineering....
Never say never.....
Bill B.
