Just a small correction, we dont have to be inspected before starting up. As long as we are in our bands, stick to the rules and dont cause any trouble, we are left alone. In fact we can start up and tell no one we are on-air. But its best to check you are not going over the top of another LPFM, but there is no rule you cant. Those that do upset another LPFM station are soon hunted down and have a few words told to them by the other user and helped to sort the problem out. The biggest problems are in the big citys mainly stations being close to each other or over deviation.
I have to say this, its long over due.
wdcx in regards to your comment: Delusional.
You are the most annoying person on this board's membership.
You post more anti-crap than I can stand and you are always combatant with everything you don't like!
I for one, am sick of seeing your repeated rants that it isn't going to happen.
People complain about Rich Fry's repeated posts in regards to the rules, but at least that is informative information we can all use, but saying "delusional" to me is just annoying and counter productive!
YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION, but Jesus H. Christ enough with it already!
I enjoy reading your posts when informative, but leave the Bill attitude where it belongs over at the hobby-flobby toy factory.net
I don't think Troy is hurting anything by sharing his dreams with us. They could very well come true. But not if everyone sits by and says "Delusional"
I am considering my resignation here, if this is going to be the only thing you have to say to everything that has to do with change when you have no idea what the FCC plans to do anymore than the rest of us do.
I've spoke my piece, now carry on with the topic.
Bruce.
MrBruce you have a definite believer here and that would be me.
I have listened closely to your story of experience in hobby radio and understand that the network of stations you built was an amazing achievement, and the way it was toppled by small-time operators from the toy farm was criminal mischief.
Your membership in the ALPB is valuable and your candor important to the future of the group.
It is for these reasons that your talk of resigning from this website is rejected. You are a member here and cannot walk out.
I may not be important but I think I am. Stand firm.

RIGHT ON!!!
And I second Carl's post.
Lots of change happened in this world because of people like Thelegacy!
Wasn't it "delusional" not that long ago for a man and a man to get married?
OR, even for a woman to vote, borrow money, or own property?
No need to quit MrBruce. Don't worry about the negativity.
Define "rural area" as referenced above.
TIB
The final definition of "rural" will need to come from the guy who said it in the first place, but my guess is this....
"Rural" is a vast open area with no residents where 1 Watt wouldn't reach anybody.
There's room for everyone here.
I think it's perfectly legitimate for someone to be called out when they're speculating, particularly when the speculation is rather short on factual content (although admittedly it could have been done in a better fashion).
But it's also OK to speculate. Just be prepared to take some criticism.
It's NOT OK to have virtually every thread end up in Initiative-like mode - I thought that it had been agreed that Initiative talk was to be carried out in its own Forum).
you're pretty close Carl. A rural area is where you're at least 30 to 50 miles away from the nearest commercial radio station. You're usually out in small-town areas where the town might be no bigger than 4 - 5 miles from end to end. The towns next to you are the same and may not have any residents. The town that you're transmitting from would have a small subdivision type complex or a few homes within a small area. Maybe 1 to 3 miles. This is where hobby radio can exist. The service I'm proposing would not be part 15 it would be similar but not the same. Remember the FRS walkie talkies and the Murs radio those don't require much from a citizen to obtain permission from the FCC in order to use them. So in a similar case Shall be for Hobby Radio. hobby AM and hobby FL.
The only reason I brought this up was because we are starting to see between the lines on every anti Pirate Radio article where the FCC chairman is saying if there is no interference and if they are not playing advertisements the FCC is pretty much leaving them alone. I realize again it is not firmly written in the law but we are getting one step closer to what New Zealand is doing. So again the naysayers keep saying it won't happen and that I'm delusional. Well maybe I am but think about it for a second why the pussy footing and the double-talk and if you read between the lines Why is this the case? Remember CB radio before it was truly unlicensed the FCC had the same attitude. So this again is ojne step closer to what US Hockey broadcasters really want. As far as AM radio goes I have something to say about this. You have to think of people who cannot construct 10-foot antennas. There are people who live in apartments such as myself the landlord has already given me some leeway but she is not going to tolerate a 10 or 20 foot pole in the middle of the yard. That being said we have to think about changing the rules so that one could construct legally and am Loop and run it that way whereas the antenna doesn't look to be large but technically it is. Right now technically you could not really construct a good blue because the wire itself exceeds the length. So in order to do this the antenna ground rules need to be changed. But I don't think we should stop there because again it takes power to get over the noise level. Remember when I lived in Elizabeth City North Carolina the noise level 4 a.m. was through the roof. It probably would have taken me 5 miles with a power of 10 watts maybe 15. Just to get one mile would take more than one lot where I used to live. That is no joke. Anyways the reason I brought it up was because of that transmitter and it was a 1-watt certified transmitter The only reason I brought this up was because we are starting to see between the lines on every anti pirate radio article where the FCC chairman is saying if there is no interference and if they are not playing advertisements the FCC is pretty much leaving them alone. Think about it for a second how long do you think it will be before hobby broadcaster begin using that very same transmitter? My guess it's probably already happening as we speak. So now thats just some food for thought and we can all carry on with our normal everyday lives. Thanks for those who do support the idea.
A quality TheLegacy has that sets a good example is the quality of strength... he gets criticized and called dellusional but he takes it and continues on. This is the kind of man you want on your team. TheLegacy isn't the kind of guy who gets discouraged and quits.
TheLegacy defined one type of rural town... "The towns next to you are the same and may not have any residents." I think there is a Conway Twitty song "Town Without Residents". Sometimes they call them ghost towns.
Speaking of dellusion, I have strong and wonderful dellusions and refuse to give them up for any reason. Not a joke. If you read the important philosophy books you can discover that life is a kind of illusion... how far can that be from a delusion?
My take on 15.219 is that an antenna cannot exceed 10-feet in total length, but it doesn't limit what you can do within that 10-feet. It is my opinion you could build a huge loop with as many turns as you want, and as long as the loop didn't extend more than 10-feet in height or width it would be compliant.
Many amateur radio operators also have the problem of living in apartments with no outdoor antenna space, and they have invented excellent tricks for putting out a signal, including running wire along the baseboard to serve as ground radials. I tried it and it works.
Joe Walsh made a song called Life Of illusion and sometimes he talks about this. Anyways did you know he is a Ham Operator and at the end of one of his songs he has in Morse Code the phrase Vote For Me.
The Kinks talks about how Radio was taken over by big wigs and thus ruining it. Hobby Radio and the idea of this is really not new and there is some references to it in the music we do listen to.
Going back to the subject of AM I was always under the assumption that it was the physical length of the antenna they refer to when the rules of 15:219 which states the antenna and ground cannot be longer than 10 feet. This is why I believe that the wire that comes with the Talking House transmitter is 8 ft in length. The power supply cord (which does have that 3rd prong as a ground) is actually 2 foot long. So this gives you the 10 foot rule. But if you were to make a loop so that the physical length is ¼ wave it would be illegal in Today’s rules. This is one thing that we could change and that would be a whole topic for the website in my signature The Initiative.
FM can still work (for now) in my area with some caution. 87.7-87.9 Mhz is a goner if that repack does occur and the stations take the FCC up on the auction offer. Some TV stations may actually gain some coverage on the low side if this takes place. We need to keep an eye on this. I do get the fact that for now 1 Watt plus was considered useless because of the building penetration issues for FM, but AM will need some serious re work for any real range and from a operator like myself inside an apartment. It would probably take me 5 Watts just to cover 1-1 ½ miles.

MrBruce Said:
Funny you mention Joe Walsh, I just came from the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford CT. http://www.oakdale.com/ where I seen him in concert. 07-23-2016
It was a fantastic concert, my son paid $325.00 to meet Joe Walsh behind the stage before the show, he got a VIP pass, a signed CD and some guitar picks in a case and a bag with "The smoker you drink, the player you get" album logo on it.
He played some Eagles songs as well as the James Gang and his solo tunes.
On with the discussion.
Bruce.
