Well here it is again, time for The ALPB TeamSpeak meeting of June 3rd, 2017 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. Meetings are always the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month.
My life has been very busy for the last several months which has really put a crimp on my participation. Hopefully things are finally going to slow down a little.
It's an old story but it seems everyone is just too concerned about NOUO's for one reason or another. I believe most of us try to stay within the guidelines of our regulatory agencies. Conversations along these lines always seem to lead to arguments; long grounds, non-compliant FM systems, music licensing. It would be nice to get back to simply using what we have and having fun.
Not to say rules don't matter, just sayin' too many worry too much.
Join us this Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 for some license free low power broadcasting conversation.

I enjoy the ALPB because, at its best, it's all about people doing radio and having fun.
However, I don't think that most people are worried about NOUO's. I think that the basic problem is that there is a huge disconnect between what the rules are (which are pretty simple and straight forward) and what some WANT the rules to be. This disconnect causes confusion (particularly for newcomers), and, let's face it, conflict.
It's pretty simple. If you're operating FM, you're going to get several hundred feet of range, legally. AM, you'll get slightly over a mile, at most 2 (largely dependent on the receiver). If you're broadcasting copyrighted music over the air, you need a BMI license. You need a Sound Exchange license for streaming.
And that's it. Done. Finito.
Unfortunately, unless the FCC (Industry Canada in my case) and the various licensing bodies change the rules, we're stuck with what we have. I don't see the problem in accepting that. It's the precursor to truly having fun. You stop having fun if you're always looking over your shoulder, worrying about 'The Man' showing up one day. That's why I don't attempt to push the rules - I'm grateful for what I can do, and I don't worry about what I can't do.
:: marks down the date and time :: Will try very hard to make this one, LOL.
