Looks like 49 states have the Adopt a Highway program. I'm sure the rules, and committments vary among states. Iron Range Country Radio just signed up to adopt 2 miles of the highway that goes right through our coverage area. This get us 3 x 5 foot signs with our name, call letters and frequency right ON the 4 lane highway as it comes into town, after the speed limit has dropped from 65 to 40. Pretty good visability. Committment is to go out with the gang and pick up litter along this stretch of highway a couple times a year. The station may only have 2 "staff" but with my kids and their spouses and 6 grandkids (all old enough except one) we can handle it as a family event a couple times a year. The local Girl Scouts didn't renew their committment this year, so the section of road became available!
We just signed up today but as soon as the signs are up I'll get pictures.
Good way for inexpensive exposure!
Oh, and as a footnote, our town Farmers Day celebration is coming up, and we helped sponsor the printing of the posters so our station logo is on all the posters. Poster at:

Tim what a totally good plan to integrate Iron Range Country Radio into the minds of towns people and visitors.
Suggestion to enlarge upon your good idea... get your clean-up crew extra visible Iron Range Country T-shirts or work jackets for cooler weather, so your whole crew will be living billboards.
And the farmer's market posters... you're ready for big city radio, but I think you're probably too smart to leave wonderful Bovey.
Tim, those are Genius Ideas! What an eloquant way to get your station in front of the public for ZERO dollars outlay.
It's like I always tell Blare, I like the way you think!
Loving Tim in Bovey's work!
This is what radio is supposed to be about - the local community!
Keep it going and growing!
Well, after quite a bit of wrangling with the Adopt a Highway people, our sign is up. They have rules against posting web sites, phone numbers, or addresses. They insisted that "1620" for a radio station is like an address or web site so the regional directer wouldn't let us put the frequency. I went to the directer of the whole program and he also said no frequencies -- it's not supposed to be an ad, but a recognition of a business for cleaning a stretch of highway. After going back and forth a bit we came to a sign we could all settle on.
Between this and the sign on the downtown location it's amazing how much conversation I've generated in town. And I thought everyone knew about me! Sign photo:

It's beautiful either way and there you are in big fun fonts.
