Yeah - - I'm not sure I'm going
to pursue it. Although I'm tilting
closer to Yes rather than No.
By the way, I have always enjoyed
hearing about your Part 15 operation.
And the pictures you have sent out
have been a lot of fun to look at.
Best Wishes, Brooce
I called the company and explained
the situation in detail. After a while
they completely understood that I
wasn't making it up.
They are sending me another
without charge which is a great
thing. (I hope this next one doesn't
have any problems.)
Brooce, Part 15, Hartford
Was worried by the risk of being charged a couple of extra shipping fees for getting your transmitter repaired, Brooce.
So I am relieved and glad that the company has responded so ethically by sending you a replacement transmitter.
I'm still puzzled by the inter-relationship between Information Stations and Radio Systems combined with the old unmodified, newer modified, and iAM versions of the same transmitter.
Being confused is something I do best, so don't explain anything to me!
When I first ordered the "enhanced" version they sent me an unmodified unit. I contacted them via email and was told that they would send out the correct unit ASAP, which they did. Included was a RMA and free shipping of the wrong unit back to Radio Systems.
You can either pitch a healthy one if they try and charge you or because a lot of this stuf is experimental you cut your loses and just order a new TX.
At least if you buy from Amazon and sometimes ebay you can order a warrenty often from squaretrade and your covered for a lot of that sort of stuff. But its been my experience to expect defects with these Talking House transmitters because you can get them so cheap. If you want a quality TX either a Rangemaster or a Procaster may be a better bet. The audio in my listening experience is far superior to a Talking House TX. But again a Talking House TX could possibly be modified for Carrier Current because if the 75 ohm jack on the back.
If you connect that to an amplifier you could do carrier current quite nicely.
It sounds like everything worked out well, and that ISS takes good care of theeir customers. That's good to know.
So this is about my $49 TH Vers. 5 - -
which died and it's replacement
unit - - which has been going for
about 18 hours now. No problems
so far. I'm going to have some
comments and maybe a few
questions.
I'll be back soon.
Brooce, Hartford
- - running 48 hours now with
a 1 kHz tone. This thing is sitting
on the 2nd floor enclosed front
porch. The 1 kHz tone can be
heard for many blocks west
of here - - oh yeah - it's on
1590. The near field is strong
for 100(?) feet or so. Then
I'm listening to the far field
after that. It is weak but hangs
on for a long time as I walk
further and further away
from the house. I'm not
sure about the distance yet.
The receiver is a pocket
Sangean DT-400W.
More stuff to report
- - soon, I'm sure.
Brooce
In Post # 29 Brooce mentions hearing some hum on the carrier which is familiar to him and he knows how to solve it.
Meanwhile I happened to find a paper written by Phil Bolyn of SSTran about ways of manageing hum from AM transmitter systems, and now would be a good time to share it.
Phil Bolyn's Whitepaper on RF Hum
Meanwhile - tests continue. At the
request of my friend John, I have changed
frequency from 1590 to 1700.
"Programming" is just a
1 kHz tone. As mentioned
before, the transmitter is
covering a
significant area, altho
very weakly. This is
quite interesting. 1700 kHz
is fairly clear. There were 2
signals here - which seem to
have disappeared. WRCR
1700 in Ramapo NY, seems to
be off tbe air. WRCR is 112 miles
from me. A local pirate on 1700
has gone to 1710. Cool stuff.
More to follow.
Brooce, Harfford
I thought WRCR 1700
Ramapo, NY 10 KW day
1 KW night was permanently
off the air, but radio blogs say
they are moving their transmitting
facilities. I wonder what
that means?
When WRCR moved from
1300 kHz 500 W day to their
present allocation, it frustrated
Part 15ers in NY and New England
who were using 1700. However, in
all fairness to WRCR -
I don't believe they were
trying to bother anybody.
I guess we'll see what
happens.
Brooce
If nightime propogation is good you should hear station WJCC from Miami Springs.
