STATE OF EMERGENCY
We interrupt this thread for a Special Message Even More Important Than Live Sports!
A NATIONAL EMERGENCY IS NOW IN EFFECT BY ORDER OF THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE UNITED STATES!
STAND OR SIT WHERE YOU ARE UNTIL FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ARE ANNOUNCED!
TOP OFFICIALS ARE BUSY LOOKING THROUGH LAW BOOKS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT COMES NEXT!
IF THE INTERNET IS TAKEN DOWN TUNE YOUR RADIO DIAL UNTIL YOU HEAR A VOICE!
I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M SUPPOSED TO DO NOW! THEY DIDN'T TELL ME!
The state of emergency.....the US is being invaded by aliens!

An earlier thread referenced time travel and discussed the possibility of its existence. Perhaps this answers the question.
I particularly like that the character in question sold the townspeople umbrellas to protect them from stray meteorites.
Seen That
The SFGate link provided by Artisan was overloaded just now, but I have seen that entire episode somewhere about the confidence man named "Trump" with his wall hoax.
Common thinking has gone by the wayside, but I still sneak away sometimes and do some thinking... I think that a border wall would require an entirely new layer of bureaucracy to maintain and guard the wall itself. A new cabinet member "Secretary of Walls" would be appointed. New careers would open up called "wall workers" and part 15 antennas could be mounted on top of the wall broadcasting "Wall Information", giving Richard Powers a whole new pastime keeping track of it.
My feeling is that there should be a giant Border Mall with shopping and Starbucks.
Anyway, let's dissect the word "emergency", which means "emerge" plus "-ency: Forming abstract nouns denoting states, conditions, or qualities".
Now we know through radio.
Emergency Talk
Very good Snopes link AMRadioLegend!
Since several States of Emergency declared by previous presidents are still in effect it seems to us that the current president could have simply attached his cause to an already existing Emergency Declaration. But what's done is done.
Carl said, "... let’s dissect the word 'emergency, which means 'emerge' plus '-ency': Forming abstract nouns denoting states, conditions, or qualities."
Take a look at how the word "electrocuted" is abused these days in general reporting -- rather than meaning "killed by electricity," somehow it now means experiencing an potentially lethal electrical shock, whether surviving the episode or not.
Then there is the use of the word "literally." Don't get me started.

"Then there is the use of the word “literally."
That's a very good point. And it's true... we speak "literally" when we think we are telling the absolute truth or claim to be definitely correct, but that's not exactly what the word means. I think it means that what we are saying is backed up by printed literature, in other words, "if it's in a book it must be true", which is not always the case.
Many of us have literally been electrocuted, but not always rising to an emergency.
the real state of emergency is the crime family (and Putin puppet) occupying the white house not this fictional border crisis designed to rile up his base and distract the public from God only knows what Trump and the GOP are attacking the very fabric of our supposedly civilized society from all angles so there is no telling what exactly they would like us to be distracted from.
Disclaimer: Just My Opinion based on what i have observed since the last election and over the course of the last 30+ years and in no way intended to start a political flame war.
News Talk Think
No flames here.
Hello Part15 Engineer and I welcome your point of view and know it to be right on the money from the vantage point of my radio station, KDX Worldround Radio, bringing solid newscasts all day everyday, each of which spell out exactly what you said from many voices and journalists all over the world.
My three station "genres" include News, Talk and Think, hoping that eventually these forums will be allowed to mature to include everyone's programming and not just those with grade school memories.
