I was using (mostly) my Tecsun PL-380
last night when I was listening to Art Bell -
and I put some info about his show on
another thread.
I know some people on the board have PL-380s,
and others have PL-310s, and PL-660s. And some
people must have other kinds of Tecsun radios.
So - - here's my problem - - I can't turn off the sleep timer.
It's set to 30 minutes. This means every 30 minutes the
radio turns off and i have to turn it back on. Now this
is fantastic for saving batteries, but I can't figure out how
to defeat the thing. When the radio is turned on - the number
30 comes up on the screen. Then it goes away after a few
seconds, and the frequency of choice comes up instead.
I have tried a lot of different key strokes, and I am missing
something.
I have searched the internet, and have yet to find an answer.
Does anybody here know the answer?
Regardless of whether I get the info or not -

I'm guessing the PL-310 has the same "sleep timer" feature, but I avoid it because I cannot understand what the little booklet says about controlling the timer.
I will wait with you for a smart person to come along.
With the radio off, press and hold the power button in for a few seconds. That will enable using the tuning knob to adjust the sleep timer through its range of settings including "on," which turns the timer off. Once you find the setting you want, quit turning the tuner knob. After a few seconds the radio wil turn itself on in the sleep timer mode you selected.
So Rich, you are right! I just wasn't
holding the power button down long enough!
These radios with multiple functions
that aren't labeled on the radio - - Then
you have to find the instruction manual -
where???
I have been working in one end of the house.
The radio has been in another room that is
pretty clear of RF interference. I can either listen
to it from a distance - or connect it to a Part 15 FM
transmitter and hear THAT on a nearby radio.
So either way, I had to go back and turn the
thing back on every 30 minutes. Whew! No more!
I remember the earlier days of solid state
multifunction radios, such as my Sony
ICF2010. There was no guessing. It was
just a regular keypad and the function key.
You didn't have to guess (at least as far as I
can remember!)
Thanks again!
OH Hey Carl - does your PL-310 work the same way?

I think so.
It would be a really "Bozo" move
to do it another way.
"Hey - I think we're all Bozos on
this bus!" - Firesign Theatre

Yes. Bozo the Clown still is an
important part of local television
history. Which is part of broadcast
history - which I can't get enough of.
Local live TV - think of it. Amazing.
But the Bozo character on the Firesign
Theatre was a whole different thing.
If you've never heard any of their old
LPs, I can't detail it here. It would take
too long.
You could look it up.
I remember an album called,"In the Next World
You're On Your Own."
The front cover was very good artwork of a bunch
of creatures playing baseball out on a sunny day.
I say creatures because they all looked like insect
spider things with baseball uniforms on.
Although today's generation wouldn't think anything
of it, I still get a sudden cold feeling when I look
at that picture.
Again, for me anyway, it is too hard to explain
The Firesign Theature.
I will say this - when they were making their LPs
there were still vacuum tubes in msny recording
studios and radio statons.
