I thought at first that this noise could have been coming from the power lines themselves only because the antenna is basically in direct line with the power lines some 80 feet from across the road.
That was not the case though as i actually used my Grundig G3 to sniff out noise offenders, first test was with the radio set to a weak AM station, although it doesn't really matter i chose 530 Khz and nothing popped as I walked under the power lines leading from the meter base to the transformer, i did the same thing with the Grundig tuned to my local CB channel 27.205 or channel 20. Again, nothing unusual was heard.
I did the same thing walking around inside the house trying both frequencies and the noise was present but was much louder in my radio room where the modem is hanging on the wall. Holding the radio right up to the modem of course swamped the receiver.
Plugging the modem/router into an outlet seperated from the radio room dropped most of but not all of the interference. This idea hit me after reading Neils story about the Flavoradio trick.
Reception has improved but it is not perfect, yet.
A line conditioner might just do the trick here or moving the modem away from the radio room would be more ideal. I just have to keep in mind that i will still have an ethernet cable running back into the radio room possibly bringing some noise in with it.
One more thing, the 50 ohm coaxial cable was running right next to the cable tv lines and i have moved the 50 ohm coax away from that as i am trying to rule out all possible noise makers.
Well yes, I thought I made that clear in my original post.
