Major players in the part 15 hobby of the past are disappearing without a word.

Most recently we have wondered about the status of Jim Henry, recently voted Chairman of the ALPB, no longer heard from while the membership organization appears to have no controlling members.

The super active member Rich Powers of End80 Radio at Tybee Island, Georgia, abruptly vanished from the forums and his website taken down.

The other island member, Ken Norris of Friday Harbor Tiny Radio gone along with his website.

John Mouw of Druid Hills Radio and WLSL LPFM in Saint Leo, Florida, not heard from since Hurricane Michael.

Going back in time, the founder of the ALPB, Lefty Gomez, ushered away under mysterious circumstances not heard from since.

RFBurns, the most knowledgeable radio engineer we've ever had, closed out because of untold disagreements.

PhilB, inventor and distributor of the best AM kits, the SSTran3000 & 5000, vanished along with his products.

Now only a few of us log in to post about low power radio, only to face scolding if what we write doesn't match that of a 12-year old starter.

Part 15 low power radio is a great hobby, but not without practitioners.

I wonder why.

Not a good outlook as I for several years now have enjoyed communicating with others that do this. Wouldn't want to see these forums disappear.

Yet over at the "other" forum where you can't join because of your email address isn't to his liking, there seems to be regular daily activity, albeit by one or two people, the owner being one of them.

"Now only a few of us log in to post about low power radio, only to face scolding if what we write doesn’t match that of a 12-year old starter."

Maybe comments and misinformation such as this is a factor.

Scolded

It has been said that Carl Blare is the cause of dwindling participation on this forum.

Patriarchal authoritarians always know best.

RE :  "Carl Blare is the cause of dwindling participation on this forum."

However such an idea was not stated in this thread before having first been done so now by Carl Blare.

Know Your Place

As a non-part 15er with no low power hobby experience you (Rich) have no voice in the matter.

- One needn't be an active operator of a "Part 15" setup to understand how they operate and to comment on them.  Physics is physics.

- That some persons operate a "Part 15" setup does not necessarily mean such persons understand how they operate. That requires a good knowledge of physics, preferably along with a few decades of proven experience with r-f transmission systems.

Both participants in this discussion initially had their say, and I was inclined to leave it at that.

There was no reason for a third voice (i.e., Rich) to chime in.  Particularly when no new information was presented, and the results of that chiming in could be accurately predicted (and, in fact, in my opinion, were wanted).  That is known as trolling, and it is not welcome in this Forum.

I am always reluctant as a Moderator to intervene in threads, but this one is heading south, and I strongly suggest that it immediately stop.

Hints & Clues

We noticed AMradioLegend signed on this morning! That means he's OK!

And I thought I spotted End 80 Radio over at hobbycaster, which still doesn't explain why his website is closed.

Anyway, this is hopeful so let's take the rest of the week off and celebrate!

Lets everyone try and get along; remember, you always attract more flies with honey then vinegar.  Happy Holidays everyone!

As I See It

Mr. gamewell offers diplomatic advice: "Lets everyone try and get along."

It's appropriate to discuss our social disposition on the day before Thanksgiving, the holiday related to annual table warfare when relatives try to be nice for 45-minutes.

Our radio forum is like a giant 24-hour-a-day 365-days-a-year thanksgiving table and we are here for the dark meat, the pumpkin pie and the egg-nog (metaphors for radio talk) but our degrees of tolerance vary due to differences in table manner and we're annoyed by how the other guy chews his food or grabs the last drum-stick.

We have to face the fact that we're all annoying and our parents may not have wanted us in the first place.

Well, I don't know about you, but....

....LOL, just kidding! Happy Thanksgiving/start of the holiday season, BTW.  😉

(Apparently, I pissed someone off with this joke.  Lighten up, folks....don't take yourself so seriously!)
