Do cars still have hoods? Mine has a hood but it's an older model run on fossil fuel, and many cars today are electric. On computers the 'hood' amounts to the APs, programs, and OS. Today I looked in there to see what Microsoft has added to Windows 10 through 'updates'. I was abruptly kicked into a 'woke' state when I found that Skype was not only installed but was 'running'. It is a VOIP telephone gadget but we have other access and have never installed Skype and cannot guess what it might be doing. I decided to poke around detective style. Sure enough, Skype is now a Microsoft property and they evidently slipped it in without bothering to tell me.
I wish we could have an OS that simply did what we told it to do without all the froth, frills, and bon bons.
