I would go so far as to suspect the story is in fact written in part by AI and designed to align with key human expectations, but containing no authentic biological dimension AI cannot supply any basics of animal society such as touch; physical contact. Sexual preferences, therefore, are not supplied in the realm of flesh, and I would hesitate to breach the subject with an AI partner.
Being a childless relationship, there'd be no reason for marriage, that being a contractual partnership founded principally around parental responsibilities and rearing of offspring.
