I'm always hearing about how royalties must be paid to protect the artist, etc... And always hearing about artist selling off those rights because their not making money off them anyway. Then something about BMI buying out other royalty revenue potentials last year... And it all seems so clear that it's rarely the artist that ever make much, It looks like it's always the governing bodies of the copyrights that make the money, not the artist .
Today I saw that now the entire Miles Davis catalog has been bought out. It all seems like a racket

New York-headquartered Reservoir Media has acquired Miles Davis’ music publishing catalog, as well as rights to his recorded music.
The New York Times reports that the deal, which closed in August, includes 90% of Davis’ music publishing rights and of the estate’s income from his recordings
Way of the world.
At this point I kinda wonder if anyone under 35 knows who Miles was as a performer. Even the word "cool" has cooled in the slang vernacular for Millennials.
