So I have about 900 episodes of Suspense and 400 or so episodes of the radio version of Gunsmoke all in the one folder with a comedy series Our Miss Brooks soon to come. They run at 10PM daily, one episode, and then daily from 12 midnight to 3:30AM back to back episodes picked at random. All are excellent audio quality.
It's to bad about the CBS Radio Mystery Theatre as a good many are bad audio quality, muffled, and they seem to be taken from the radio as there's electrical interference on a lot of them also and this is the same no matter what source they come from. Not good for on the air. To bad as I like that series and there were a lot of very good ones. Some also have the station's news and other stuff and times vary too much and make for hard programming with the automated program and too much trouble to edit and weed out bad ones with 1366 episodes made.
Then at 7PM to 8PM every day is Artisan's produced shows called Teenage Dreams.
The best oldies the rest of the time with other stuff off the beaten path in there also along with the hits. Playing everything the other stations won't.
Another update on my evolving Golden age of radio dramas.
I will now add a fourth drama along with Our Miss Brooks, Gunsmoke, and Suspense.
Inner Sanctum Mysteries that ran from 1941 to 1951 and was produced by Himan Brown who later in the 70s created The CBS Radio Mystery Theatre to try to keep the golden age of radio alive. Audio quality is good on most of these and you can hear the similarities in the two shows. 1/2 hour running time like most were. All these are in one large folder and run at 10PM(one episode), and then from 12AM to 3:30AM back to back daily. Shows and episodes are at random pick. Since I am my station's principal listener I make my station sound like what I can't hear on commercial radio, which is why I got into this part 15 hobby to begin with.
Two shows similar to the ones you're playing are Escape & The Whistler. Both have large numbers of shows available, are in the public domain, and you can find recordings that are high quality (the OTRR in particular have re-encoded multiple episodes for the best possible quality).
There are lots of others, but those stand out right now in my mind.
@artisan-radio Thanks. The Whistler I have looked at and it seemed to be a crime one from what I saw where it's a similar theme...the murder and find the killer. I'll take another closer look but I try to keep to the shows where it's a different theme/story, people every episode. Not just crime/detective. The one with the Mountie(Challenge of the Yukon)), is the same theme every episode, you've heard one, you've heard them all. I did Our Miss Brookes to get a light side with some comedy but I like that one and they have a different story each episode. I like Gunsmoke. Fixed main characters but different story each episode. I'll look at Escape. It's just too bad CBS RMT is not a 1/2 hour format and has been just taken from a radio and not good quality.
I can get the whole series in a playlist, well all the available ones, with Inner Sanctum Mysteries and will let the computer download them tonight.
It's true that the Whistler is mostly crime oriented, but there are often supernatural or horror elements mixed in as well.
My favorite comedy show by far (not to diss Our Miss Brooks, I like it as well) is the Great Gildersleeve. Virtually every episode made is available and with good sound as well. It's a spinoff from Fibber McGee & Molly (Gildersleeve was Fibber's next door neighbor in that series).
Another interesting show is My Favorite Husband, starring Lucille Ball. It's actually the precursor to the I Love Lucy TV show and very similar in a lot of respects. They even made an I Love Lucy radio pilot, before moving it over to TV.
