Low power radio is made to order for news talk programming, so why aren't there a few news talk stations on this forum?
As the lone such station, KDX Worldround Radio has been on the air since 2007 with a continuing flow of news talk and a tad of classical.
More time is spent on programming decisions than on technical matters, always trying to maximize our lineup.
For example we've just decided to replace "Free Talk Live" with Ian and Mark from Keene, New Hampshire, with the Thom Hartman show. We became uncomfortable with FTL's "infomercial like" emphasis on bit-coin and crypto-currencies, a departure from their otherwise call-in free-for-all which we'd prefer.
The Thom Hartman show delves into serious issues of the moment with top-drawer guests, a much more densely rich program
Another program being dropped is RT News, a half-hour daily news program, which is orchestrated through-out with music, a combination that drove us away.
Circling back to the question of why news talk stations don't post here I do know why... any discussion of journalism soon leads to a claim of "political speech", a code for "things you should not say".
To serve the news talk community KDX Worldround Radio is opening the Blare Blog starting July 1, 2018.
I've always wondered why there weren't more blogs in the field of Part 15 broadcasting. I am aware of one by RichPowers (or End80, depending on what Forum you're on) but that's about it.
One of the best blogs in any field that I've ever run across is one from a Bowen Islander, Chris Corrigan: http://www.chriscorrigan.com/parkinglot/blog/
Chris is a professional facilitator, musician, and philosopher, and his blog has been around a long time. He was one of the early supporters of Artisan Radio; if you go back to entries in the 2006 timeframe, you'll find several posts on the early incarnation of the radio station.
A blog done well can be a fabulous resource. I look forward to yours, Carl.
Artisan Radio recalls: "I am aware of one (a radio blog) by RichPowers (or End80 Radio)"
Yes, Rich Powers had/has a tremendous blog and we have been wondering where he is?
Powers owns a sailing vessel so perhaps he's off at sea somewhere and may return any day.
By far Rich Powers is one of the most talented creative people in low power life.
Here is a link to his blog. He's still active. http://part15lab.blogspot.com/
Carl asks why are there not so many news talk stations?
Well for one reason they can't be automated, or at least I can't see how, and you have to have lots more equipment, much more $$ and tech know how, and be attending it all the time. You have to be a good talker and not stumble over your words or run out of things to say and have dead air. All of this for who knows if anyone's listening!
Mark's view on why there aren't more News Talk stations: "Well for one reason they can’t be automated, or at least I can’t see how, and you have to have lots more equipment, much more $$ and tech know how, and be attending it all the time. You have to be a good talker and not stumble over your words or run out of things to say and have dead air."
You'd be absolutely right if that was the way we did it, but we could not manage that kind of operation.
What KDX does is carry many newscasts from numerous sources and it is all automated using Zara.
A huge number of sources provide free podcasts and broadcasts with news coverage, and we carry it as close to the release date as possible so it is not stale.
My only job is getting it all into the playlist at the right time which I do manually because there's no way of automating so many different download protocols.
I myself do not do a news report.
