While writing in the thread titled "'Why Pop Music Sucks' I had an idea for a program format that might make a part 15 radio station popular with listeners in its signal area. It's simple, and involves putting out an invitation for listeners to submit playlists which you will schedule on the air giving credit by name to those listeners.
"This afternoon's Playlist on kDX is submitted by Randolph Scott and his family on 38th Street in Affton Missouri. All listeners are welcome to submit Playlists and KDX will notify you when your musical selections will be featured."
That's a good idea. Too bad there are apps and websites that allow people to do that for themselves, and listen instantaneously.
I think that the fun of radio is that you never quite know what you're going to hear next. It might be something you've never heard. You might like it or not. You might actually learn something by listening to the DJ (although likely not, given the vacuous patter they generate these days).
In creating your own playlist, you're just revisiting what you already know.
