As you see a very simple set up can get a professional sounding station on the air. The computer is a small lightweight 11" notebook with Zara. Next to that is a headphone amp with EQ(bass mid treble) to add tone control with Zara. It runs from the computer with micro USB cable but I am considering getting this instead............
Next is a compressor made by FMR audio and then the Decade transmitter operating in mono for better coverage. Works 24/7 365 using about $7 a month electricity operating expense at current Toronto rates.
All Jingles, promos, ID's are in MP3 files at random in the mix.
This is all automated so no mic and mixer. But to a listener this would sound like a "real" station.
All fits on a shelf by the window.

My station also is very simple. For my automation I use NextKast which has a nice audio processor in it. However I do use the Sean Cuthbert audio processor for my AM transmitter.
I stream my station to the Internet thanks to the folks at DJC Media. Wes is a great guy and the AdsWizz program helps supliment my station to cut my licensing cost. Since I'm streaming I can broadcast without interrupting my Wife's TV watching by doing the following:
I have a computer in the bedroom which is a HP with an Athalon A4 5000 processor 8GB of RAM and a mere 438 GB HDD. I'm saving for a computer with at least 1-2 TB of HDD and an Athalon A8 (or better) processor and 12-16 GB RAM since in Album Rock broadcasting you need the highest capable HDD you can get as well as RAM and processor speed.
In the Transmitter room I use to have another Laptop but it went on the fritz so I use an old Android Smartphone to receive my Internet stream and then send it to the Sean Cuthbert audio processor which really makes a difference for AM Broadcasting. A cheap chancy set up but does the job nicely.
Right Now I have a Sean Cuthbert C-Quam AM Transmitter but I'm replacing it with an ASMAX 2 C-Quam AM Stereo transmitter due to the fact that the Sean Cuthbert does warble (But my broadcast engineer had to replace some under rated parts in this unit to make it Album Rock Broadcast acceptable). The ASMAX 2 is already out of the box Album Rock Broadcast quality and 50 Ohm which means you can work with 50 Ohm antenna setups.
Range
1 1/4 mile Album Rock standard quality sound to a Car Radio like a Kenwood, Delco, or similar system 1983-2001 somewhere in there.
0.9 miles to a Tecsun PL-380 and Grundig 450 DLX (But not Album Rocck standard). Album Rock Quality about 1/4-1/8th mile on those Radios.

To get listeners you have to tell them that their Radio's are most likely a POS and their getting ripped off without lube. All they need is a CB Power supply, the Car RAdio, 2 speakers, and maybe put it into a wood cabinet with everything inside and put a hood mount car Radio antenna on the wood case.

So what you do is hand out a few converted car Radios to a few really interested listeners. Then they tell their friends and you've just started a business converting Radios for people in which will help them break FREE of the shackles of Top 40 and Rap and you didn't break one FCC rule and you get the range you want lol.

That Asmax one looks very good! Checked it out. I would say by looking as good or better than the others. Less money too. Also frequency agile as I see by controls on front.

I once took an AM radio from a Chevette in the 80s and brought it in the house and ran it from 2 6V lantern batteries and a bookshelf speaker and had the same reception inside as the car. But those radios were all analog and worked with any 12 volt supply and didn't use much power.
The radios now are security coded so if power is cut for a certain time it won't work and has to be preprogramed to operate to prevent theft. When I changed the battery in my car I had to be very quick about it.
To do this you have to get an older radio from a car before 2000. Lots on Ebay.

Mark if I do get a car stereo or suggest car stereo systems I try to suggest before the year 2002 because remember we want that c quam AM stereo reception.
As far as the ASMAX 2 transmitter Gose it's pretty easy to keep it within legal limits as you can look at how much watts it puts out if you get the display that shows modulation SWR and RF power. This transmitter is built like a professional transmitter whereas the harmonic filters are much greater than -20 DB's of harmonic filtering.
Let's put it this way this transmitter will make a talking house transmitter look like a Fisher Price play toy even the Sean Cuthbert transmitter which is an AMC quam transmitter which is pretty clean in comparison to some of the transmitter we see this thing still beats it no warbling and very stable.
Even the folks at Hobby broadcaster wanted to try and get this transmitter certified for the United States. I don't see any issue with using it as long as you're careful with it and make sure you read your display and be careful to look at the modulation monitor to make sure you're not over modulating.
I wish anyone out there good luck with this transmitter if you do get one following the advice of getting your listeners to convert a car stereos to work in the house I don't think that would be an issue as you will get a lot of listeners this way.
