I've had my time in my member page set on UTC-5 here for a while now and it always shows the wrong time stamps, but I just realized I was thinking GMT-5, which is my time zone... but didn't see that option. So I just Google what is  Georgia UTC Time and it says it's UTC-4, so I figure ah, that's why my time stamp is always way off, so I just changed my profile here to UTC-4 to correct it, but now my timestamp is even more off! For example, right now it is 2:15 AM, but look at my timestamp below.. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know what you are referring to here. Or what UTC-5 or GMT-5 time is or a time stamp?
Artisan may be able to help here.

@mark I'm referring to in our user profiles where you set you location and time zone and picture etc. .. I Guess UTC means Universal Time, GMT refers to the more common Greenwich Time (I don't know what that means, but it usually what you set in on your computer setting to sync time)

I guess I'll never find out. Never sure what time it is here half the time anyway.

Can anyone tell me how to set the correct time (for time zone, Georgia) stamp on the profile page so the time stamps in the forum corresponds with reality?

Does anybody else even bother with it? Maybe it's just me. I just want the time stamps of post to be accurate.

@richpowers I had never set those fields up, and my timestamps were OK.  I just set them up and we'll see if it changes anything.

Addendum: There was no change, I set up my location to be Canada, and the timezone to be Vancouver.  The timezone for you in DST should be UTC-4, but you can try setting it to be a city that is in the same timezone and see what happens.

@artisan-radio Like I said I changed it to UTC-4 and it threw my time off even more.

For example right now it's 12:33 AM,   ...

And my time stamps is 9:34  AM

That's worse than it was before!

@richpowers Did you try setting the location to a city within your time zone?

I did that and it seemed to be OK.  But there still may be something wrong.  The Part15.org server is located in the same time zone as I am, so that may be the reason it's working.  I note that the server time is 3 hours behind your time, and that would be correct if it's the server time being displayed, rather than the poster's local time.

I'll check it out.

@artisan-radio Actually from my view my timestamp shows 8 hours hours ahead, not 3 hours behind.

Well, I take that back.. last night it was showing 8 hours ahead, but now it's showing  3 hours ahead - it's 11:19 AM here as I post this, but it shows it as 8-something in the morning.

@artisan-radio My post last night at 2:15 AM showed as 10:17 AM, that's  8 hours I don't know why it's showing 3 hours off now because I hadn't change anything.

oh, I couldn't find a city to select. I'm just outside Savannah Georgia, so I set it to UTC-4 which is what Google told me my UTC zone was. But that just threw the timestamp off further than it was.

I don't know how that timestamping works, so I'll look into it.

There are two ways you can go with timestamping.  One is to use the posters local time, which could mean that posts get out of order.  The other is to use the server time as a base, standardizing everything and keeping posts in order.  I suspect that we're seeing the latter in play.

I did some experimenting, just selecting random options trying to find one that would display the correct timestamp, and eventually settled for "Chicago" which only timestamps me at a half hour ahead - which is closer than it's been ever before.. but really, what's the point of I ever find one that hits dead+on if everyone else's timestamps here is incorrect too?

Right now with my time set for Chicago, which is vastly incorrect with my actual location in Savannah Georgia it is 2:03 PM, so when I hit "Add Reply" it's going to show I posted this at 2:33 PM...

Well damnit..it shows 1:03 PM, but it worked out as a half hour difference earlier! What's the deal with the time on here?

Is anyone else's timestamps here consistently display as completely wrong too?

Maybe it has something to do with Cloud flare, I noticed we were down for hours here again today earlier
